In Islam, the value of an act is measured not only by its outward form but above all by the intention that motivates it. Sadaqah is no exception.
Intention (niyyah) comes first

Discretion: a sign of sincerity
﷽« If you disclose your charitable expenditures, that is good; but if you conceal them and give to the poor, it is better for you. »

Give from what you love
﷽« Never will you attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love. »
